Hotel Julien

Antwerp · Belgium

A townhouse hotel set across two historic buildings in the centre

of Antwerp, defined by its scale, layout and sense of privacy.

21 rooms · Townhouse hotel · City centre Antwerp · Open year-round

From the street, Hotel Julien gives little away.
A facade like any other in this part of Antwerp,
positioned within a continuous row of townhouses.

Inside, two former buildings connect into a single property that opens up gradually.
Staircases, smaller rooms and shared spaces feel found rather than planned, shaped by the structure rather than a redesign.

The original layout remains visible throughout.
It defines how you move through the hotel,
where light enters, and how one space leads into
the next. Transitions are subtle, but consistent.

Nothing is oversized.
Nothing is there for effect.

The Hotel

Rooms are spread across both buildings, each shaped by their position within the original layout.

Some spaces open up, others remain more compact, depending on their location within the structure. Materials are kept simple, allowing light and proportion to define the atmosphere.

Variation exists, but not as a feature. The building determines the space, and the approach remains consistent throughout.

It feels put together rather than designed.
That distinction remains central.

The Rooms

Breakfast is served within the hotel, simple and well considered.

There is no full restaurant, and the surrounding neighbourhood makes that an easy trade.

Cafés, restaurants and smaller places are all within
a short walk, extending the experience beyond
the building itself.

The bar and lounge remain open throughout the day.
Used by guests and locals alike, without becoming
a focal point.

Dining

A sauna and treatment space sit within the hotel.

Small in scale and in line with the rest of the property.
Integrated rather than separate, and consistent with the overall approach.

Wellness

Set in the historic centre of Antwerp, on a smaller side street near the Grote Markt.

The hotel occupies two 16th-century townhouses, positioned within the older fabric of the city.
From the rooftop terrace, the spire of the Cathedral of Our Lady remains clearly visible.

Despite its central location, the immediate surroundings are quieter in scale.
The main squares, galleries and shopping streets are within walking distance,
but do not define the immediate atmosphere.

Location

A townhouse setting that remains true to its original structure
Rooms shaped by the building rather than a fixed layout
A smaller scale that feels intentional
A central location without the sense of a large hotel
A consistent approach throughout the property

Some places stand out through scale,
This one stands out through restraint.
